Comments Thread For: Rizin Aims To Get Mayweather vs. Nasukawa Back on Track

Last Wednesday, former five division world champion Floyd Mayweather scrapped a planned fight with Japanese kickboxing superstar Tenshin Nasukawa, claiming he had been duped into agreeing to the contest. In a lengthy statement posted on social media, Mayweather said he had been "blindsided" by MMA promotional company Rizin, who are the organizers of the proposed bout, which was scheduled to take place on New Year's Eve in Saitama.

You talking about original contract? Why did you even try to change it? Mayweather would be a fool to get involved in this circus.

The day after the fight was announced BoxingScene had a piece saying:

Sources have indicated, however, that it likely will be strictly a boxing exhibition, perhaps as short as three rounds, in which case it wouldn’t count on Mayweather’s unblemished record (50-0, 27 KOs).

If fight fans in the United States want to watch the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Tenshin Nasukawa bout December 31, it won’t be as expensive as usual to watch Mayweath

I am not confused. Mayweather announced he agreed to an EXHIBITION, an entertainment event, he never said he was agreeing to an official boxing match or an official MMA fight. He said he agreed to an EXHIBITION, most likely for just three rounds. Why the hell would Mayweather fight a 122 pound MMA fighter in a pro boxing match? In Japan? If Floyd is going to risk his perfect record, he could do it against a Berto-like opponent for an easy win and much more money. This entertainment event in Japan sounded like Mayweather trying to infiltrate another market for whatever it is he does now. If this kid insists on it being an official bout, Floyd isn't doing that. He shouldn't have with McGregor either, but the money was too good to officially admit it was an entertainment event and not any kind of real professional boxing match.

floyd could make 88 million fighting berto or berto like opponent? i think not. he only made 35 when he fought berto and showtime lost millions on that fight. he thought he was getting a lot of money for an easy cherry picked fight but he was mistaken and ran like the coward that hes always been. cherry picking coward is his moniker for a reason

IDK, this sounds weird. I think the Yakuza have threatened Floyd's life and are going to make him fight. Poor Floyd.

So it’s basically confirmed that Floyd will only take fights for huge money, that he knows he can win.

Sums up the last bit of his career nicely, actually.

Floyd's moniker is TBE. The Best Ever. The reason for that is because he fought the top rated ww or super ww, who was willing to face him, every single fight, for a decade.

He made only $35 million against Berto. lmao. Also, Showtime more than made their money on that deal. They made over $20 million for the Canelo fight alone. And even more than that for Pac. And then over $40 million for Mayweather-McGregor.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the reason HBO no longer shows boxing and Showtime does show boxing.

But keep on hating! Floyd thanks you. It is obsessed haters such as yourself, that make Floyd so big. You and others would say such nonsense, and casuals would believe you. So they thought he would lose against Oscar, Hatton, Mosley, Cotto, Canelo, Pac, and many others. If it was not for haters such as yourself, Floyd would not be nearly as famous or half as rich as he now is.

TBE thanks you kindly for doing your part to market and help sell all of his fights.

Floyd seems to be saying he might take a fight he has a chance of losing, but only if it is an exhibition and not official.

And honestly, who in Floyd's position would have done anything differently for the end of his career. People really, really wanted him to fight Pac, and he got over $200 million for one of the easiest fights of his career. And he also got over $200 million for an even easier fight against Connor.

If the public is dumb enough to buy up his biggest mismatches, why not? Would you fight someone harder for a fraction of the money? The American public is easily duped and incredibly ignorant on many issues. He could have fought Thurman or Spence or Porter or Lara or whoever else was an elite ww/sww and it wouldn't have gotten 2 million ppv buys. If it was $100 a pop, he wouldn't have even gotten one million buys. But throw in a washed up, beaten down borderline-midget or someone who has NEVER boxed professionally and both sell over 4 million. lmao. As Don King said, "Only in America!"
