Comments Thread For: Bellew: If I Rejected Usyk Fight, Decision Would Have Haunted Me

Tony Bellew claims he would have been "haunted" had he turned down undisputed world cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk's challenge ahead of this weekend's showdown. Bellew was seemingly on the verge of retirement after burnishing his legacy with a brace of stoppage victories over British rival David Haye in his two most recent outings.

So, maybe off-topic, but what is up with "Liverpudlian" anyway?? Who in the hell came up with that?!? Why not plain old, logical "Liverpoolian" or "Liverpooler?" I'm sure its a nice place, but, honestly, I think I would move to the next town over rather than stand being called a Liverpudlian.

The next town over is Manchester, I’d rather have dysentery than go there dude. Very off topic. It’s a local thing I guess. ****neys are from London, Mancunians from Manchester, Geordies from Newcastle, Brummies are from Birmingham. Non of these nicknames have a logical point of reference. Being a Liverpool lad I prefer to be referred to as a Scouser.

It's weird how we have these tribal things in the UK. We're such a small set of countries after all.

I'm Scottish and have genuinely spoke to Northern and Southern English that like us more than other English people.... very strange lol

I live in Aberdeen, so people from there are called Aberdonians, then Dundee people are called Dundonians, however, I was born in Falkirk which have a unique name, "Bairns" - if you're from there you're called a Bairn or a Falkirk Bairn:

"Over on the east coast, weans (children) are more often referred to as bairns. Derived from the Old English word bearn, meaning child or descendent, bairn has its roots in Old Saxon and Old High German, and is used in some parts of North East England and Yorkshire as well as eastern Scotland"

Off topic, but my best pal is from Liverpool (of Everton affiliation though). I was down there 2 years ago for his stag do and was staggered by how sound the people were. Lovely people down there for sure.

Okay, that's some good info there. I suppose Liverpudlian isn't any worse than Brummies or Mancunians, and, yes, scouser works. I didn't catch the London one though.
