Comments Thread For: The Death of 49-Year-Old Christian Daghio Should Give Us Pause

By Michael Rosenthal - The death of any fighter in the ring is always heartbreaking. When that fighter is 49, it's particularly disturbing. Christian Daghio of Italy died this past Friday, a week after he suffered brain damage in a brutal knockout loss to Don Parueang and was placed in a medically induced com in Thailand. The image of him lying motionless on his back after the fight was stopped, his head cupped by the referee, is haunting. His brother was...

I never wish death on any boxer, but is this really that much worse than if he ended up Muhammed Ali, an invalid for 10-20 years? Ali had the fame and the fortune to afford care, but this guy wouldn't have any of that. He wouldn't have money to pay his medical bills, wouldn't be able to walk, talk, or feed himself.

Just saying, if it was up to me, and I had to die within a week of a fight or suffer as an indigent invalid for years, I would choose the quicker more painless route.

Videos of Ali in his last years, videos of Meldrick Taylor are just as disturbing as this incident. When in a boxing match, another full grown man is trying punch you in the face repeatedly as hard as possible. There are obvious risks in such a profession. This makes me respect all boxers, but not want to put any more "safety guards" in place. In fact, I would much prefer they go back to 15 rounds for all championship fights.

Very sad this story and if boxing is stay as relevant in within the entire sporting field I believe each world sanctioning body should get all their medical experts together and agree rigorous suitability testing procedures that protect not only the boxer but the entire sport from damaging stories and needles tragedies like this. Womens boxing on particular as they only 5 or 6 fighters in each division who can fight and have experience. The rest either have padded out records or peddled around as fodder .. If a women dies in the ring and their records are analysed then there will be not only another tragedy but boxing will be in big trouble , unfortunately the potential as per present rules and regulations are laying dormant out there somewhere . It's just that womens boxing is so irelivent except for the 5 or 6 that really can fight that the rest go un noticed and this is where the potential for disaster lay.

Forty-nine is a bit old for boxing, much less kickboxing or Muay Thai. Sometimes fighters need to be protected from themselves.

This author is a dumb phaggot. Evander Holyfield is NOT a good example of a past 40 success story in boxing. The guys speech is unrecognizable.

The guy was trying to support his wife and daughter. So he had to fight. And it was his choice, but I hope we can Red Pill as many guys as possible with his story. Guys sometimes it's better to just go MGTOW and live for yourself and only have to support yourself. These women pressure guys to keep up their lifestyles. If you aren't well off, then you don't have to settle with a woman and take on all of those financial obligations. Believe me when things go wrong, Women will leave you in a second and spin the relationship to blame you for it.

I know his brother was trying to spin it that he wanted to die in the ring, but I'm not buying it - nobody wants to die in the ring over a sport. After Robin Williams, Anthony Bourdain, etc. These women nowadays have blood on their hands and they don't even really care deep down.
