Its worse than Brook v Golovkin because at least Brook was a huge welterweight, struggling to make weight.

Mikey looks like a fat little doughboy at 140 ffs and Spence is a monster who will be @154 within a year.

I know I'm going to be critical of it. Honestly Spence's opposition since Brook hasn't been up to the standard he should be setting himself and now he's fighting someone who honestly has no business above Lightweight. Yes, Garcia beat Broner at LWW, but that was largely because Broner fought entirely the wrong fight. When Broner began to actually press and let his hands go at the end of the fight he was backing Mikey up, even though it was far too late. Garcia finished that fight a wide winner on the scorecards but with his face visibly more damaged than Broner's despite Broner only landing a fraction as many punches. Spence is not only faster, bigger and a harder puncher than Broner, he's also a much more aggressive and relentless fighter with a much higher ring IQ. This will be a bloodbath that'll do neither guy any credit.

Honestly I feel like Garcia ought to be criticised too. In the shape of Khan and Brook we've seen fighters jump up two weight divisions to commit career suicide against a killer in the division they're jumping up to and both times it's cost them dearly. Khan ended up a knockout of the year victim and got benched for years while Brook picked up permanent damage from Golovkin, and both fighters subsequently suffered massive damage to their careers and reputation despite valiant efforts in both fights. Khan was seriously in contention for mega fights against Mayweather and Pacquiao before Canelo, and Brook was seen by many as the top welterweight, and now nobody takes either seriously anymore. Some people will say that Garcia trying this is bravery, but to me it just looks like hubristic, arrogant, macho BS. He has legit opposition in his own division, he doesn't need to do this to be legit. Both guys, as it stands, have pound for pound credentials but this will damage that for both of them in my opinion if it pans out the only way I think it can.

i dont think he should get criticized. mikey has been caling Spence name out for far to long and Spence can use a big on his resume for sure (4 time champ of fighting bums but none the less)...mikey also knows that he has to go after the big dog in the division because if he losses he will get the praise Kell and Khan got for going up and fighting the bigger guy. plus he can always go back down and fight at weight classes that he has had success.

there is a reason he is not making the move the tradition way... as in fighting a few fight at welter before he fights spence. because if he doesn't look like a killer or even loses to anybody else at the weight his money fight is off the table... Spence by Total destruction... Robert will be ready wid the towel from in the locker room

From what I've read so far in this thread, some seem to think he won't be criticised because Mikey called him out, but so what if he did? It doesn't justify accepting this crap. Roberto needs to get Mikey's ear and do some screaming. What the **** are they thinking?

i wonder if he will come under the same criticism..
Yes he will get will and he already has been. I don't agree with it. Mikey called him out not the other way around. Why should he turn down the biggest money fight available to him against the biggest star? Mickey weighed 149 on fight night against Easter and Spence weighed 156 on fight night for his last fight. That's only 7 pounds difference on fight night. Mikey plans to add weight for Spence so there will be even less weight difference when they fight. Some fight fans cry too much today about a boxer going up a few pounds when in the past it was done all the time and nobody worried about it. Often the smaller man won the fight. Lightweight champs fought welterweight champs and welterweight champs fought middleweight champs and it was thought of as moving up one weight class not two weight classes. Mikey already fought at 140 pounds twice. I didn't see anything wrong with GGG accepting Brook's challenge either. Brook was a huge welterweight who weighed just as much as GGG on fight night. Khan fought Canelo at a catchweight of 155 so he was only moving up 8 pounds not two weight classes. If the slightly smaller man wants to fight why should the bigger man say no to a good fighter and a good payday?

Khan-Literally was fighting nobodies and had not done anything worth a damn in years

Brook had 1 damn decent win in his entire career

Mikey is MULTIPLE DIVISION CHAMPION AND A TOP P4P FIGHTER...IS IT A FIGHT I WOULD HAVE DEMANDED??? NO...BUT IT IS NOWHERE NEAR THE SAME

Brooks win over Porter is better than any of Mikey's wins. Mikey's best win is Adrien Broner. Spence deserves to be criticized. He's the biggest ww in the division fighting a dude who looked small at 140.

I would pick Mikey to beat Porter or Danny Garcia. The only welterweights who could beat Mikey in my opinion are Spence, Thurman and Crawford. Therefore I think a Spence win over Mikey is just as good as a Spence win over Porter. Mikey beat the hell out of Broner yet if Spence was fighting Broner nobody would be crying about it and it would be call it a decent win for Spence.

No chance in hell Mikey beats Porter. Mikey was getting walked down and lost 3-4 rounds to Sergey Lipinets, he's way too small and weak to hold off Shawn Porter. And people would definitely complain if Spence fought Broner. That would be a huge cherrypick.

Yeah after GGG team said he’d beat anyone at 154-168. Then they fight someone from 147lbs. Great move.
