martin looked like he had froze on the occasion just stood there for the first 3 rounds with a high gaurd not throwing punches. not sure if abel sanchez could do much about that, the stoppage was early however it was going that way and would have prob just got worse for martin as taylor was landing some solid shots.

The ref saved Martin from a worse pounding. He was ready to fold through Taylor's tremendous body smashing. Josh keeps on getting better with every fight. Sparkling stuff.

I thing Sanchez had already recognised that his fighter had frozen. Sanchez said after the second round "you need to start throwing" . After the 3rd round he said "just throw punches - doesn't matter if you hit his shoulders".
I think this was good advice - if Ryan would just have thrown a few more punches - ok, a lot more punches - then at least Taylor would have know he couldn't throw with impunity. As it was Martin was close to being a heavy bag because he froze.Last edited by SteveM; 11-03-2018, 06:20 PM.

Wasn't this the same ref who stopped a Joshua fight early? Fight before Parker? It was a blow behind the head but Martin turned his body half way around from Taylor and was catching a beating without throwing back - some of you guys are real blood thirsty ghouls. Martin is still young and if he can toughen up mentally and get better footwork he can regroup. But he'll have to be very humble here a la Murata.

It was similar in the Gassiev Usyk fight, where Gassiev was having his ears boxed off, but Abel’s didn’t offer anything specific to help his fighter turn the tide.
I would’ve liked to have seen him try a different approach with Martin after a couple of rounds. Realising that he’s frozen, maybe give him something specific to work on for a round - might have snapped Martin back to the present.
If Sanchez has seen any of Taylor’s fights, you know he’s going to heavily target the body - it was like there was no plan to nullify that. Nothing they’d worked on in the gym he could remind Martin of.
So is Abel good at conditioning, but tactically naive?
