It really wasn’t, he was 41, 18 months inactive, coming off a humbling loss, got dropped multiple times, couldn’t finish AJ even when he was absolutely out on his feet and all in all got TKO’d by a fighter he’d have easily dealt with in his prime.

What was unhistorical about beating Joshua in a rematch? He was competitive and had a real shot of winning and a new match was already guaranteed to him. Now he's even older with less of the momentum and he will have to joust for position amongst other contenders. There was no shame in losing a second time + a lot of extra millions that wouldn't have hurt either i have no idea why he retired when he did.

agree, if he wanted to continue fighting and avenge the joshua loss, the best time was an immediate rematch. Even if he took some more time, 8 months or whatever is better than retiring for 3 years and coming back even older.
