Do you know who Paul Banke is?

Im a bit embarrassed to admit this to you all since I know my boxing...but I recently met Paul Banke and had no idea he was an ex world champion... (in my defense I was a wee bit kid when he was) that being said...what can you tell me bout Mr Banke? anyone????

Damn I haven't heard that name in forever. I remember back in the day he was one of the KO magazine poster guys doe. I think I mighta even had him hanging on my wall. Think he went straight down the toilet after his KO centerfold doe cuz iirc he was about 20-4 at that time & looking at his boxrec he retired at 21-9 losing to some random ass low level guys.

I'm not sure I seen more than 1 of his fights doe. I'm pretty sure I seen the Zaragoza fight.

Edit: oh sh^t seeing he's got AIDs now. Respect & good luck to Banke in dealing with that, but sounds like he's been dealing with that for 2 decades already so he must be dealing with it well already.

One of the nicest guys in the sport.He has really cleaned up his act and is now training fighters and very active in fundraising for those in need.Now healthy and really giving back to the sport

Paul Banke was a very good fighter. A real tough brawler. He's from Azusa and fought quite a lot at the Forum. If I were you I'd really try to get some time to watch the Zaragoza trilogy. The first is a classic fight, really hard fought and close. Zaragoza barely (but fairly) winning on points and the re-match was another great, great fight with them going to war and Zaragoza going all out with his face a mess of blood. He lost his title soon after in a bit of an upset and then had the rubber match with Zaragoza who despite being about a decade older had a lot more left and schooled him easily.
