Comments Thread For: Ryan Martin: I'm Faster, More Athletic, Just as Strong as Josh Taylor

USA's Ryan 'Blue Chip' Martin feels confident in beating 'The Tartan Tornado' Josh Taylor when they meet in a 140 lb Ali Trophy Quarter-Final on Saturday at The SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland, but Taylor is calm before the storm.

If Ryan Martin gets blown out, it will reflect poorly on Abel...

        Abel Sanchez is useless

First was the Murat Gassiev loss, second was the Golovkin loss, third was the loss of a hot prospect who was unbeaten, that is three consecutive. that is between July 21 to September 15 a time frame of two month and all those fighters ware unbeaten when they lost. Now if he lost another unbeaten in Ryan Martin and I believe he going to lost to Josh Taylor, that is going to be a fourth consecutive lost with a time frame of 3 1/2 month and four consecutive fighters with unbeaten records. I don't advise fighters to get trained with Abel Sanchez. All those losses are in 2018. Abel Sanchez is useless as a trainer with his old school training methods.

Sanchez obviously sees something in Martin. But what exactly? ... Doesn't seem like his usual style of pupil.

Not sure how much footage of Martin there is for Taylor and his team to study? Sometimes its the unknown that trips people up - like Troyanovsky with Indongo.

That's dumb. I'm not saying that Sanchez is some kind of ace but he's had plenty of success, and nearly all fighters are gonna take losses - I'll not discuss the GGG - Canelo situation because it's pointless, but it's hard to see what any trainer could have done with Gassiev to make him capable of beating Usyk. And Martin is hellishly underexperienced in the pro-ranks and probably should be expected to lose against Taylor - but are you saying they shouldn't have taken the chance? Sanchez can only work with what he has, like any other trainer.

ive only seen his last 2 fights, but he fights similar to gassiev. Good, tight guard that is blocking and catching a lot of punches. On the frontfoot most of the time and throws tight and short punches, but throws single shots instead of combinations.

Isnt that exactly what sanchez style is all about? The one thing he has lacking is crushing power.

This is one of the most useless comments I have seen. Nobody was going to beat Usyk that night and GGG won both fights against Canelo. Sanchez is one the most successful and consistent trainers out there and gets the most out of the guys he works with. Don’t be surprised if Ryan Martin beats Taylor either

Was thinking about this myself. Equates to the sopho-more slump you hear about in sports -- given they have set seasons/timelines/etc...

Hard to fight someone when you are less certain you know their tendencies, hand position, etc...
