Lou DiBella was on Chris Mannix's podcast talking about the future of streaming & brought up a couple interesting things.
The first was about other major sports that I hadn't thought about. He was talking about the pluses & minuses with DAZN & specifically why DAZN got into boxing. And one major point he made was that he doesn't think at some point the major sports will even be bid on by ESPN, Fox, DAZN or whoever. He said the NFL is gonna be on a NFL app. The NBA is gonna be on an NBA app. And so on & so forth. Thus its possible DAZN & other players getting into boxing now are seeing boxing as a more viable sport to be picking up these days.
And unlike I've been arguing maybe DAZN's future could be boxing & MMA & other lesser sports for this reason & maybe their future doesn't live or die on acquiring NFL, MLB or NBA rights.
The second was about PPV. And this was something I was thinking about myself recently, but thought it was a lil nutty so didn't really bring it up. But he said he thinks with Canelo going to a streaming platform & streaming platforms being more of a thing he thinks PPV could be changing soon. He believes promoters will be able to better negotiate a more favorable cut than ~45% like PPV distributors usually take & he thinks this is very likely to bring PPV prices down in the US in the future.
I thought both these comments rang true to me & seem like some sh^t I could see being a reality in the coming months & years.
Thoughts? Opinions? Agree or disagree?
