Juan Urango is now a lame duck champion.

obviously there are already a couple threads going on this but i just wanted to start one to discuss a couple different aspects of why ben rabah was robbed.... and why this makes boxing look bad.

first off i scored the fight 117-112 for rabah, being one 10-10 round. teddy atlas scored it 117-111 for rabah.

as the thread title says Juan Urango is now a lame duck, the guy displayed absolutely no skill whatsoever, and even more strangely showed that there was no preparation on his part to deal with the style of his opponent, there was even an article on this site posted earlier in the week speaking with Urangos trainer in which he said somehting along the lines of "there is no fight plan for a guy like juan he just moves forward until he breaks you down" as if thats an acceptable way to approach a world title fight.

well here is the problem. everyone especially urango knows that he has been exposed as a crude slugger (not even close to mayorgas level as far as boxing skills) now what? good fighters are gonna be looking to fight him instead of the other champions becuase its obvious any of the top fighters at 140 will box circles around him, they'll wanna take the easy way like gatti going after baldomir... whereas if ben rabah had won the fight people would be avoiding him becuase of his awkward style and how bad he made an undefeated prospect look. essentially what im getting at is that this one terrible decision is really going to change the landscape of ths division for the long run.

juan urango will surely take a long ass time off and go back to the drawing board, he probably wont fight until it is mandated sndd when he does it will be against someone that sucks. a title at one of the better weight classes going is now held by a fighter who is probably not even in the top-15.

look for people to start lining up to fight the lame duck Juan Urango.

and as far as people saying rabah is an easy guy to rob, yeah sure easier than most, but bernard hopkins has a promotional stake in him so its not like hes going into the ring naked or anything. i have to assume that bernard is pretty pissed.

id be interested to hear some public comments made by any of the fighters, trainers or promotors involved if anyone has access to them.

funny also i remember teddy saying before the fight "remember urango, the more exciting, more TV friendly fighter........"

well people should be talking about ben rabah.....not just saying i hope urango gets knocked out....look at what rabah has gone thru to get there and then gets robbed...meaning, career over!

as far as bernard hopkins or de la hoya having a stake in rabah, thats crap imo.....they must have hundreds of fighters on their books and don't even follow them!...did anyone see hopkins or de la hoya at this fight?

            D hopkins
Nope. This guy is only going to be a top 10 contender. He will never do anything aside from getting a minor belt, and even that will only last a short period of time. Hopkins is not that good. He already has an iffy decision on his record vs Johnny Gonzalez.

D hopkins may not be that good but look at that division right now. cotto will probably move up soon and hopkins is already in the top 10 i believe so a title fight for him may not be too far off. and if he fights urango i see D-hop winning by ud.

I agree with but could something of his descent be a part of it?

I just seen the fight today and I though that was a clear robbery.

Urango never did anything and got the fight and that is the purest robbery because all the judges gave it to Urango.
