I agree, it wasn't a shut out and it was very competitive early, more competitive then the scorecards would have you believe. He actually hurt Floyd with a cuffing left hook, can't remember which round.
But overall you can get fights that are competitive but aren't necessarily on the cards, that's what people never understand. I think the first 6 rounds were all close rounds, but it was a boxing match, and the commentators were highly biased towards Floyd because of that, which not for the first time has influenced everyone. But Canelo was actually doing a great job staying with Floyd in a boxing match, he was challenging Floyd in a boxing match and not in a physical way, and actually there is something to be admired by that.
His mind just couldn't keep up in the second half, and Floyd made it a clear victory. But even then Canelo had some nice moments, but he just couldn't be consistent with it, he was mentally fatigued, as Floyd is constantly changing the rhythm, adapting, offering different looks.
He had the talent to do well, but not the experience to build on his successes. That is the truth of this fight. For the record I scored it 117-111 Floyd.
