    I think his meaning probably has to do with the fact that before Oscar it was only heavyweight's selling big ppv Oscar changed the focus from them to welter and carried the sport

            He was referring to the multiple roles that De La Hoya has played.

            De La Hoya was a PPV superstar as a boxer. Then he also excelled as a promoter. He is still very relevant in boxing today even after he retired years ago.

            Mayweather promotions as far as i know isnt signing fighters to $365 million 5 year contracts. I follow Mayweather promotions on twitter and know they dont have anything important going on.
