As much as people want to assume Canelo will win, he won’t for a few reasons. One, Floyd will fight the same fight Sugar Ray fought against Hagler if they ever fought. He will move and stick and counter to a decision, maybe a controversial one. And the main difference with the Canelo rematch is he has a good grasp of what Canelo does well and doesn’t do well. Now I know Canelo is a much different fighter today but the core tendencies of fighters never change, they just improve them. Floyd knows where those power shots are coming from and Floyd has an under rated chin too in case he gets caught. Rarely, does Floyd get caught with a flush shot. And Floyd has a better defense than Leonard had.

Two, if it’s in Vegas and it goes the distance and it’s close, Floyd’s home town will give him the win. Even though Canelo is the cash cow in boxing, he isn’t getting a close decision over Floyd in Vegas.

Now I can see Canelo winning too. Because theversion of Floyd that fought him the first time, stayed in the pocket most of the fight. He trusted his footwork and reflexes and defense. This Floyd is older, he won’t fight that fight. He would get caught and hurt. His reflexes won’t be the same at 41. His body may not be able to withstand the body shots that Canelo likes to throw over 12 rounds. Floyd’s conditioning may be a little less than superior.

The only shot Floyd has of winning is fighting like Leonard did. Back then, it wasn’t a boring fight, but Leonard basically stayed away from Hagler the entire fight and fought in spurts. Today, fans would be all over Floyd running the entire night against Canelo but that’s the only shot he has of winning. Staying away and countering and trying to steal rounds.
