Comments Thread For: Ricky Hatton Expects Very Big Things From Nathan Gorman

Heavyweight hope Gorman (13-0) goes for his fifth consecutive KO win at the Brentwood Centre, this Saturday night. The 22-year-old might not be built like an Adonis, but he and Frank Warren stablemate Daniel Dubois are both winning plaudits and on a collision course to face each other.

It's apparent that a fight with DD is going to be held off for as long as possible, so why not have him gain some experiance by fighting in Europe or the USA a few times?

At this point in time, Gorman is a far better boxer than Dubois and would beat him, which is why that fight won't happen for some time yet. Frank Warren is pinning his hopes on the likes of Dubois and Yarde being his chiseled poster-boys, and will put neither in against a slick boxer until they vastly improve on their fundamentals.
Hearn learned that lesson this weekend, which has likely postponed his plans with Ritson for at least a year maybe longer. Ritson walked through everyone at domestic level while barely breaking sweat, yet found out when you step up the level that it's not as simple as going through everyone like a freight train.

I kind of like Gorman, he is keeping a lower profile than guys like Joyce / Dubois.

It will be interesting to see how things play out, Dubois is being protected by Warren though.

Yeah, I really like Gorman. Good variety, quick hands, good boxing IQ, family history and heritage, good feet. Lots of potential.

I agree, but unfortunately he lacks recognition - possibly due to his image. He's not a muscular Adonis, a pretty boy, or an Olympic prodigy - he's chubby, balding, has short arms and has gypsy heritage. If big money contracts were based on talent alone, this lad would possibly the most touted HW prospect out there. Like the Fury's he is very slick for a HW, but he's more exiting to watch so far as he uses that ability to attack rather than defend.

Me too. i remember him and Hatton seemed quite willing to take a fight with Dubois. i know they have sparred and it seemed like Gorman and Hatton felt very confident that Gorman beats him, like they know something, not just the usual talk.

Anyway i like Gorman, he looks to have good ability and a good skill set for a modern heavyweight. Not very big though, so he could be undersized in todays heavyweight game.

And I expect Gorman to get knocked out by Dubois.

Yeah, you're spot on. But I don't actually view that as a really bad thing at the moment. He can quietly progress without all the fan fare, hype and pressure which I think suits his personality. He's developing nicely and will continue to do so, Ricky Hatton was saying about him trimming up a little and working on a few technical things so in my opinion he can do that without too much pressure, he's still only 22 although he looks about 40!

Hopefully Warren continues to match him well and starts to develop his fan base a bit more in the future, he's a nice lad and has a good personality too. Yarde and Dubois are the up and coming poster boys but Gormans got the skills. Hopefully Hughie Fury vacates the British and Gorman can fight for it, but I think they'll probably try and chuck in Dubois.

Do you know if the BBoC have confirmed what's happening with it?
