    Going after the easiest belt

The ONLY reason Canelo is fighting Fielding is because that’s the easiest belt to take at 168, and they want to be able to say Canelo is a “world champion in x-amount of weight classes”. Another example of too many ***** belts per division out there.

Almost nailed it! I think that you overshot on the new "Canelo weight" though. I was thinking more like 160.1 lbs or 161 max for the new ICWA belt. International Canelo Weight Association?

From my understanding, David Benavidez was forced to stay with Al Haymon and Sampson Boxing so I dont think Benavidez will get a Canelo shot anytime soon. He had better luck under Top Rank.

Benavidez and ramirez would've been big fights for Canelo at 168 because of the all Mexican theme and the fact that they're considered credible at 168. That's how we know that Canelo is just trying to do an easy belt grab and it's not really about making a great legacy move as some are trying to pretend his fight with Fieldhouse is. Just like he did with Liam Smith he took the easiest option there was which is a UK belt holder, not a champion.

not only are there too many belts in 1 division, there are too many WBA belts in one division. It's ridiculous to have two WBA belt holders in the same division. That's why nobody takes the WBA serious and it's not considered when assessing the hall of fame credentials of fighters.
