  • Comments Thread For: Peter Fury: I Believe Hughie Can Unify Heavyweight Division

Trainer Peter Fury believes his son Hughie is capable of not only winning a world heavyweight title but unifying the division. Hughie (21-1-KO11) heads for Bulgaria to take on Kubrat Pulev in an IBF final eliminator on October 27 with the winner advancing to a shot at WBA Super, WBO and IBF champion Anthony Joshua.

Is that it Pete? You are going to tell Hughie he stepped up too soon when Pulev whoops his ass? 12 rounds with Joe Parker is probably the only real experience Hughie has ever had in boxing.

If Pulev wins then only points. He is now 37 and hasn't fought for 1,5 years. I can't see him seriously hurt Hughie. Its not the same Pulev anymore who fought Ustinov,Dimitrenko & Klitschko. its a past his prime Pulev.

You know what, I'm beginning to considered these points you made, I also noticed Hughie has beat a bunch of old vets reaching their 40's. I think I'll pass on this one with the bookies.

If only Hughie showed any sign of wanting as much as Pete does, he looks like a lad doing for his family rather than driven world champ. Just don’t think he has it in him

I believed in Hughie once but the writing is on the wall. The guy never developed the power necessary to be a real HW champ. That MIGHT be ok if he was a brilliant boxer but he's not. A good boxer, for sure. But not great and shows no sign of changing since he hasn't progressed much in 5 years.

I normally like what Peter says but on this occasion he's wrong. Hughie blew his chance with the weakest champion of the lot. He is the poor mans version of Tyson , nothing more .

Hughie just turned 24 and even if I didn't like Hughie negative style in that fight, I thought he beat Parker and he's taking next on Pulev wich is respectable.

He and Pete are humble lads and are trying to get the big fights so stop hating for a minute on every non american fighter ("no I like Linares doe" yeah F you).

Well he has been a pro for 5 years so I guess he has progressed a bit at least.

We should see if he can do well with Pulev who is no slouch.
