a fighter who was never in great shape as a heavyweight becuase of his small stature but dominated top contenders and only lost to champions who towered him , was robbed against the gigantic lennox lewis in which lewis still proclaims today was his hardest fight of his life. was beat by larry holmes but holmes had a seven inch reach advantage and mercer best asset was his jab, i just coulndt see any cruiser weight beating him even now at 45 years old

He was a Heavyweight in the Marines, and had huge legs.

There are quite a few boxers that would have beaten Mercer at Cruiserweight and Holyfield is just one of them, Mercer has always been a heavyweight.

Tommy was kicking Mercer's ass until then, but yeah Mercer was a great Fighter but i dont know if he could have been a crusierwight he won the olympic glod at a think around 201 lbs. so i dont know
