Comments Thread For: BoxingScene Championship Stats & Records: Oct. 2018 Update

It's been a month and change since the last update and plenty of changes have taken place. This exercise in keeping track of boxing's confusing title picture, and the statistics that accumulate along the way, also comes with a new feature.

Thank you for including Tyson Fury in the rankings as the Lineal Heavyweight champion. Nice to know these rankings are put together with no bias.

Cliff, you no longer recognize Pacquiao as the last lineal WW champion?

I wrote at the time that it was iffy and in retrospect there was enough doubt about who the top 2 were that it is better to error against. It wasn’t clear enough IMO and he didn’t follow up to solidify post May.

Wouldn't Yamanaka-Moreno fall under that same boat?

It could but there was no dispute there about #1. Manny wasn’t universal before Bradley 2; Ring had Brook 1. Both could be seen as iffy; some judgement call in both. Neither had a crystal #2 either. I wasn’t comfortable with Manny-Bradley at the time and don’t believe anyone really sees Crawford as THE history guy right now. It wasn’t a Hill-Maske process clean process of elimination that only ended in a Erdei later. In Yama’s case I felt the reign he’d had and Moreno’s run, marred only by a cut shortened fight on the road, was more valid, especially going into the rematch

It’s hard to define an exact science sometimes. It’s why an Usyk is always best. Leave no doubt.

Felt like the individual sanctioning body records really needed to be there. Might add some more records over time

Actually why I did it. It's insane but at least if someone says who holds what and how did they get there...there it is.
