I can't say Payano was all that, but one punch KO power is always impressive. Would love to see Inoue vs Nery, but it's not allowed in Japan. Maybe they could make an exception.
Didn't he enter the ring at 131 against McDonnell? I remember reading that.
The two biggest Featherweights, in terms of fight night weight, are Frampton and Valdez. Frampton enters the ring at 136-137 and Valdez usually enters the ring at 134-136. Santa Cruz entered at a career high, last time out against Mares, which was 135. That's probably because he will move up to 130 soon and is trying to bulk up.
Inoue should take his time though. He is very young. He should probably try to become one of the best Bantamweights of all time, a historic division. I just can't help but get excited and I can't really see anyone testing him at 118 or 122. Maybe Dogboe. Really need to see more of Dogboe though, but that may be the fight in a few years.
If Inoue does ever fight at Featherweight all the current top guys will probably be retired or at a higher weight, so he may face off against the new crop of Featherweights. In my opinion, the current crop is better than the one coming up.
was he that high? I never saw fight day weights...but if Inoue was 131 I'd be curious what Jamie weighed in at, because that fight looked like a boy against a man lol. If that's true though, I guess he can go up to FW pretty easily.
so funny, they bring in an average opponent to get knocked out and people act shocked when it happens. payano wouldnt be in anyones p4p top 200 fighters, beating him makes inoue legit does it? lets see what happens when he fights someone who boxes and moves
its a decent win but nothing that puts him as a p4p level fighter. just a routine opponent. if hes rated 5th it doesnt say much for that division, he wouldnt be in most peoples top 200 p4p fighters
So who exactly did Golovkin beat to get his high P4P ranking? He was already top 3-5 before fighting Jacobs. A lot of it was based on the eye test, and Inoue looks flat out the goods with a solid resume'. He's destroying legit guys with ease. Are guys like McDonnell and Payano great? Of course not, but they are solid fighters and he's getting them out of there in a round.
Inoue is legit, won't question anyone saying he is the best fighter in the world. Likely top 3, at worst top 5.
