Adrien Broner is such an anachronism.

Broner loses easily when he goes defensive. Which doesn't make sense.

When he's the aggressor, he walks down, he's fast, he's accurate. But he doesn't seem to want to do that anymore. He didn't do against Maidana so it's not that fight.

I was watching the Porter fight and he was tagging Porter pretty good, but he wasn't busy enough, same as Vargas, same as Mikey. He tries the shoulder roll and the counter from underneath like Floyd, but he eats jabs every time he does it.

How is it a guy sucks so bad at defense? That's like the first thing you should master.

It makes me want to see Broner/Berto, just to see who's worse defensively.

There are three other words I could have chosen. None of them are safe for simple minds.

Whenever he's mauled his ego doesn't allow him to fight back and get into a scrap. He gets all self-conscious, tries to evade and look slick. I don't think I've ever seen him fight with gusto and meet fire with fire; it's always this "too cool for the room" don't have to try I have better places to be routine.

He fought like that against Theophane and Taylor.

It's like why is he aggressive when it's a black guy in there but shells up when it's a Mexican?

Broner doesn't stay aggressive because he's not good enough to do so. It's not like he's deciding to fight worse than he's capable of. Broner is not very good at judging distance, so it doesn't matter if he is backing up or moving forward, he will struggle with anyone who can keep him from feeling comfortable with distance.

If Broner let his hands go a lot more, better opponents would hit him a lot more and he'd still lose. Plus he might gas out and get stopped.
