Me I don't give a f#ck about title defenses. I think title defenses in boxing are largely meaningless as to your legacy in the game. The issue I have is you don't gotta fight the best available contender often enough & lotsa times when you are faced with a mando it can be a sketchy ass bs mando like my man Spence just had.
But I mean thats not to say its not impressive just to have a higher level undefeated streak cuz most guys winning without a belt are still fighting guys beneath the lowest level long term champion usually so its respectable enough.
Again all in all I think most long term title reigns are built on too many lesser fights so while they show consistently at a higher level than most non-title holders I think the quality of ones reign is often living or dying on who you beat vs what number of defenses you ended up getting.

Respect on a new belt I guess, but this is a cherry pick belt grab I feel like.

Canelo out there making history, meanwhile haters and salty cuckboys crying about this fight.
Fact if the matter is, this is his first fight at 168, never been that far up, and people want him to fight the absolute best in that division, without ever fight fighting there? Especially after fighting GGG, twice?
People complaining about this fight are a special kind of ******.
This is akin to Roy Jones going to heavyweight to fight for the WBA belt. All about making history.

Technically he's not defending his MW title so there is the possibility that by the letter he could have this fight and then still have a voluntary defense of the MW title (possibly Lemieux) before being required to fight Jermall or GGG (or his WBA mando -depending on the rotation)

watch all the Mexican Americans and Mexicans clamour for DAZN...why would Canelo worry about who is showing the fight if he is getting the proper wonga for it.
Maybe the business model of DAZN has got Canelo dribbling.
The ironic thing is most of us on here search for a good stream to watch a mega fight and not pay over priced PPV...and when a streaming site offers the big fights you then say it's not for me lol
And we are also members of an internet boxing forum not through showtime or HBO lol
Proper ****ed up
Or maybe they could make a deal for Canelo's regular fights & his bigger fights will still be able to go to PPV with Showtime or ESPN. I'd be surprised if Canelo gives up his PPV option by going to DAZN doe. Seems like a -EV plan & like Canelo would be leaving money on the table.
If DAZN is down for paying him $20M-$50M a fight doe who knows.

Canelo and his team are geniuses. GGG & Loeffler take note they should have done this by now. Canelo can become a 3 weight division champion against someone he should be able to defeat. It's win win for Canelo. And what a quick turnaround too hail king Canelo! Beautiful matchmaking by GB.
