Comments Thread For: Trainer: Beterbiev Wants Bivol Or Stevenson After Saturday

By Keith Idec - At 33 years old, the last thing Artur Beterbiev needed was wasted time. When Beterbiev enters the ring Saturday night in Chicago, the Russian knockout artist will fight for the first time in almost 11 months. A prolonged legal battle with promoter Yvon Michel has helped keep him out of the ring since he knocked out Enrico Koelling in the 12th round last November 11 in Fresno, California. The unbeaten IBF light heavyweight champion's power makes him one of the fan-friendly...

Good fights. Beterbiev is 33, these fights are already not as interesting as they would have been in his prime. They have another 12 months to make the good fights, then they REALLY become boring as he reaches 34 and 35 years old, which is WELL past prime for offensive fighters as we saw with GGG and Pacquiao at those ages.

2 decorated former amateur stars, both wrong side of 30 and had long lay-offs each for different reasons. Both have KO power, but Betebiev's a lot more proven at world level being the champ of course. Just means Johnson has this weekend to prove he's worthy; no more, no less.
Come on Callum lad, tame the beast and bring that title home.

Listen pal, don't look past our Callum. Now I'm doubly rooting for him. Might stick a cheeky tenner on him for a shock KO. Go get em, CJ!

I'd prefer Beterbiev/Bivol. That way, we'd get to see two fighters of whom basically neither are fully proven. Both are very solid LHWs, obviously, but we still have much to learn about each. To have 2 like that competing would be an anomaly in 2018 boxing. And especially at this point in time, whereas in a few years it would be a Pac/Floydie fiasco, past the sell-by date.

You can forget ever fighting Stevenson. He won't go anywhere near the Better Beef. Guaranteed.
