Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: Trilogy Fight With Golovkin Will Be Canelo's Call

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya has made it clear that Canelo Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) will have the final word on whether or not a trilogy fight takes place with Gennady Golovkin (38-1-1, 34 KOs). Last month, Canelo captured the WBC, WBA middleweight titles with a twelve round majority decision over Golovkin at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

You can tell from his verbiage that he/they are gonna make GGG a borderline insulting offer. It will be enough he can’t really turn it down but it is gonna be so bad he is really gonna have to decide long and hard IF he truly wants it.

Another issue is that he’ll highly likely never get a decision against Canelo especially if it’s a close fight. We already know GGG can’t KO Canelo so another fight will go to decision. If he gets an insulting offer than what’s the point unless he really just wants to try his luck at getting a decision.

It sounds like Oscar may be moving back to Showtime Pay Per View: The Barclay's Center. The home of the PBC.

If they don't broadcast his December date, I bet you he won't. At the moment Showtime have deeper pockets than HBO. They can telecast all of Canelo's PPV fights if they so choose. On the other hand, HBO can't because they no longer have the budget.
