If you could have steered Tyson Fury's comeback, would you have done it differently?

I'm not sure Fury could've kept himself motivated for a full year and a half of tune-ups. He would probably lose interest and fall back into bad habits. I would've had his comeback fight against Pianeta, then someone a bit livelier like Duhaupas and then Wilder. The Seferi fight was a waste of time

      This is the thing.

Fury is unstable. He need a big carrot hanging in front of him and doesn’t respond to the stick.

You could spend 18-24 months ‘getting him back’ and in month 19 he goes off his meds and on a bender and you’ve wasted all your time and money with no payoff.

His choice of trainer was wise in that what he needed at this point was a conditioning guy who could drive him to get back in shape. At some point a boxing guy can step into refine his game ... if he’s willing to listen.

In a vacuum Peter Fury might be a good choice but only if they can work together. And it seems clear that they cannot do so at this point. Plus Peter can’t travel to America, right? So if Tyson was co-dependent on him and then the big fight comes up ... would be unsettling.

It’s like saying “Kovalev needs a new trainer” when we know he won’t actually work. It’s not on the trainer, it’s on Kov.
