Comments Thread For: Mikey Garcia: My Main Target, Focus and No. 1 Goal is Spence!

WBC, IBF lightweight champion Mikey Garcia (39-0, 30 KOs) is still very much focused on jumping two weight divisions, to 147-pounds, for a potential showdown with IBF welterweight king Errol Spence. Garcia captured world titles at featherweight, super featherweight, lightweight and junior welterweight.

What on earth is making you think that Errol is not jumping on this? He just said publicly that he wants the Garcia fight.

Rumor is that the American Boxing Establishment is putting up money for Spence vs Mikey, but not Mikey vs Loma, because both Mikey and Spence are American, and they like the idea of putting two prime American stars against each other and seeing what happens because whatever happens, an American star will emerge. Putting a prime foreign fighter vs prime Americans, no, because what if the prime foreign fighter wins? But with two prime American stars here in Mikey and Spence, it is a dream scenario for the American Boxing Establishment, and Larry Merchant was insinuating that that is the real reason Mikey vs Spence will happen, not anything else.

Me, I want to see Mikey vs Loma, but then again I also wanted to see May-Pac in their primes, GGG vs Canelo or Jacobs or Quillin etc etc in his prime, Kovalev vs Stevenson in their primes, Kovalev vs Ward in their primes, Beterbiev vs Kovalev or Stevenson or Ward in their primes, Chocolatito vs Inoue instead of the Sor Rungvisai fight, Klitschko vs Wilder in their primes, and so many others. None of that happened, so I'm going to stop posting about fights like Loma vs Mikey.

I wish Mikey would push for Loma early 2019 then move up a weight class or two.
I get the sense Mikey feels like he is in his Peak Prime so he wants to do this Jump while he's in the best position to succeed.
He might not want to wait until he's 32 to jump into the welterweight division
