GGG or Maravilla in legacy terms?

Imho GGG is almost done for elite,if he hangs up gloves now (it is not likely I know) who would you got?

Had these last two fights been judged differently, we'd still have a possibility, but as it stands, Sergio by a good measure.

Gennady will go down like Lucian Bute. Majorly overhyped and soon forgotten.

Nothing more than excellent matchmaking and a whole lot of whining - catchweights, fight day weights, gloves, hand wraps, meats, PPV split, etc.

Dude was a Borat prima donna. So satisfied he is GONE.

You’re a casual. Overhyped fighters don’t go 350-5 as amateurs, win Olympic medals & become world champions with 20 successful title defences. and funny u mention catch weights when Canelo has fought at catch weights 7 times. His biggest wins not including ggg are at catchweights. You’re a joke. Probably don’t even box LOL

I don't think there is any comparison. GGG is much better and has a much better record. GGG was an undefeated champion with 20 successful title defenses and a streak of 23 KOs in a row before he lost to Canelo. He has never been knocked down or been in danger of being knocked down. Martinez has a number of loses on his record and has been knocked down many times and knocked out by Cotto and Margarito. Martinez could has defended his title against GGG but he refused to fight him. GGG wanted to fight him but you can make a guy fight who doesn't want to fight you.Murray fought Martinez in Argentina for Martinez's middleweight world title and knocked him down and lost a close fight most thought he deserved to win. Later Murray fought GGG and lost every round and was knocked out in the 12th. Ask Murray who is the better fighter and he will tell you it's GGG.

GGG will be a first ballot hall of fame boxer and will be remembered in boxing history as a great middleweight and you don't know your ass from a hole in the ground. He tried to fight the best from day one but the best often refused to fight him. So like the bias idiot that you are you blame GGG instead of Martinez, Cotto, Saunders, Eubank and others who had good offers to fight him but refused to fight him. GGG never fought a catchweight. All his fights were at 160 which is exactly where middleweight fights are supposed to be fought at. You and the facts are light years apart, dummy. GGG isn't gone. He will give Canelo hell again in May because real boxing fans love to watch two excellent champions fight each other. He will make another 30 million. Not bad for Borat, you ****** POS hater.

Sergio is the best champion since the post Hopkins era. Both guys have solid career victories over Pavlik and Jacobs respectively.

Plus Sergio's resume is better, I remember at the time that the wins over Barker,Macklin, Chavez were looked at in good light. Plus the Paul Williams fights.

Unfortunately, GGG won't have lineal status either.

Not only does the soccer playing, extra feminine cyclist, Martinez, have a better legacy than Golovkin...he also had waaayyy more Heart and Substance than him...

Sergio would actually go for it in his big fights...he rose against adversity and gave it his all.....

It's close. Sergio had bigger highs (2010 fighter of the year, Pavlik, Williams KO) but lower lows (getting dominated by Cotto past your prime is worse than getting robbed vs. Canelo past your prime) and overall GGG may have been more consistent but less dynamic even though overall gut feeling is that he's just the better fighter. Martinez was given very tough fights vs. Macklin, Barker, Murray (he probably lost) whereas GGG destroyed two of those and generally fighters of that ilk and I'd favor him to have beaten Martinez head to head.

It remains to be seen how good Jacobs is but he's a better middleweight than Williams and perhaps not quite as good as Pavlik. I think most feel GGG beat Canelo twice and sometimes what happens in the ring is just as important as official results. GGG has the 20 defenses and long reign and I think that could sway some.

Both came into the spotlight late and got their biggest fights past their bests but both were pound for pound mainstays for a while, will make the IBHOF and delighted audiences. In fact I think Martinez will be inducted in 2020 along with Juan Manuel Marquez which is when I plan on going to Canastota.

It's close and I think you can make a case either way but I preferred Martinez' style (kind of reminded me of the great Joe Calzaghe) but think GGG was a better fighter though accomplishments/resumes are arguable.
