    This is probably true.

that guy doesn't know shht about boxing

        this is far more accurate

it is similar to how some punters view Pac/Marquez

this is not amateur boxing..... which is why compubox - even if correct, and I wonder sometimes - is only relevant to stat-keepers, not judges

and I question the high numbers scored by compubox on occasion, it seems like they score just about anything

it is not about volume, it is about clean hard punches and effective aggression..... and more about who wins the exchanges and who controls the fight rather than who lands something that can technically be described as a punch

the judges know what to look for

that is why a lot of people think Marquez was unfortunate

I think most rational people would agree compubox is not 100% reliable, and it treats every punch that touches someone that isn't a jab as a power shot, regardless of the leverage it had on it.

But then people will say its not accurate, and then inaccurately apply the data it provides anyways. Bodyshots for example.

For example the power shots statistic.

              Canelo 143 / GGG 116

Canelo is credited with 46 landed to the body, while GGG is credited with 6.

Subtract those body shots from the total power shots.

You have a 97 - 110 edge in power shots to the head in favor of GGG, id accept that as within the margin of error, and call it even.

Now if we take all landed into consideration, minus body shots.

156 - 228 upstairs infavor of GGG, a 72 punch difference, thats a big enough difference where I don't think you can really argue that GGG didn't land more punches upstairs.

So GGG has a ~72 punch margin upstairs, Canelo has a ~40 punch margin downstairs.

Canelo fades more at the end of the fight. Was his offense more effective or was GGGs? Was Canelo's body work actually effective if he still was the fighter fading down the stretch? Or was GGG's jab more effective for keeping him in a position all night where he could string together the later rounds once Canelo started to fade?

Or did Canelo's bodywork prevent GGG from doing the work he put in later in the fight much earlier? How much did it drain GGG?

Canelo hurt GGG to the body, GGG hurt Canelo to the head, which do you value more.

Even if we both agree compubox is inaccurate and doesn't count all the punches accurately, they would need to miss 3 in 10 of canelos punches to make up the difference. I don't think compubox is ever off by 30% over an entire fight.

Until we have accelerometers embedded in mouth guards or something that can provide us with actual concrete data of when shots have landed, and how hard they landed, we will have to use that data that we have at hand, and our eyes to make decisions.

It was a close fight, and which way you score it is largely going to be dependent on which of these factors you think contributed to different aspects of the fight.

That doesnt make the original point that the money fighter with more financial upside in their career usually get the benefit of the doubt in fights this close invalid.

Boxing is a sport that has been corrupt as long as its been around.

The fact that the corruption swings close fights in the favor of the money fighter, is just the economics of the sport unfortunately.

And we have all seen very egregious examples of this happening.

some fair points there, but it comes down to valid scoring criteria..... it is not about volume, it is about clean hard punches and effective aggression
