Thought GGG clearly won the first fight. I thought this fight was a lot closer to a draw, but thought GGG pulled it off. The thing about this fight and most of the comments is that people forget you can only score one round at a time. You're not supposed to score the next round based on what you've seen in the last round or rounds, and there seems to be a lot of that going on with these assessments.
First, was GGG really being driven back the entire fight? Most of the time he was stepping left turning Canelo around and for the most part he was close enough to hit and be hit, where as in The first fight Canelo was back peddling from one side of the ring to the other, constantly with his back to the ropes, but some how GGG doesn't get credit for pushing Canelo back. As far as people saying Canelo was aggressive, or the aggressor, for most of the fight he was standing nearly right in the center of the ring. I don't see how its possible for anyone to say GGG was being pushed back by Canelos aggression when Canelo hardly moved and I can't remember a single time GGG's back touched the ropes.
I thought a lot of the rounds were really close, and I thought the rounds GGG won were far more clearer and easier to score than the rounds Canelo won. The reality is GGG would have won if two judges would have not given Canelo all the close rounds. Give Canelo major credit, his defense was exceptional for large portions of the fight, though not good enough to justify the win. The way he rolled with GGG'S punches took some steam off of them, although the few times GGG landed clean, you could see Canelo was hurting. Like wise, GGG was not responding well to Canelos body shots, though he was walking through them head shots like they were nothing. All in all, disappointed with the decision, but not the fight. It was a great fight that will go down as a classic, and made the first fight seem nonexistent. Both fan bases should be proud.
I felt this way since before the first fight, and this fight reinforced my belief, Jacob's defeats Canelo convincingly and quite possibly gets a stoppage. I also think Charlo can defeat Canelo, but I think that's is a winnable fight for Canelo, but I can't see him defeating Jacob's. Either case I think we get Canelo/Lemieux next. Which is always dangerous because I believe Lemieux is at least the 3 hardest puncher in boxing, but Canelo should win that fight easily, which hopefully catapults him into a Jacob's fight.
