Will GGG fight at 168 at least once before he retires?

GGG and Abel Sanchez have been talking about possible fights at 168 for years. The fight with Ward was discussed but it never happened. Fans are interested in GGG vs Gilberto Ramirez. It seems like GGG’s walking around weight is higher in the last couple years, and the weight cut to 160 may be getting to be too much. A 41 year old Hopkins improved after back to back losses by leaving 160 to go all the way up to 175.

If GGG loses will he go up to 168? If he wins will he go up to 168 after a few more fights?

Marvin Hagler never moved up and people say how great he was.

Hopkins is bigger than Golovkin and a huge middleweight.

Why does GGG need to move up?

I think GGG consider moving up only if he won't win tonight.

Like Hopkins, GGG is a small middleweight. Remember Hopkins fought Oscar at a catchweight (156). Unlike Hopkins, GGG wouldn’t fare better against bigger, slower fighters. He should retire the day he can’t make 160. Ward was way too big for him, and Ward said as much. Kovalev was the right opponent for Ward, as he was always a big SMW. So my answer is ‘hopefully no’.

If there is a can that'll pay he will move up. If there's any risk he won't.

I’m not saying GGG isn’t great. But I’ve noticed that he’s been looking a little heavier between fights lately. He’s undefeated, he’s got great power, and he’s never been knocked down in over 400 fights (amateur and pro combined).

GGG himself has talked about fighting guys like Ward, Chavez Jr, Froch, Ramirez, etc. at 168. Obviously, Ward and Froch are retired now, and no one wants to waste time watching GGG lay out Chavez Jr. But GGG vs Ramirez would be a barn burner.

I won’t complain if GGG stays at middleweight to fight guys like Saunders and Charlo, but I’m curious to see GGG at 168.

all the big money fights are at 160.. so no. he can make bank with Saunders, Jacobs 2, Charlo, Murata in Japan and a Canelo trilogy. GGG will retire a middleweight.

If he loses tonight then he should. Winning a title at 168 would boost his legacy.

Weight will be an excuse for Team GEE, Fable has already kinda hinted at it before. (168lbs... coming soon)
