Comments Thread For: Canelo Alvarez-Gennady Golovkin II: Stats & Stakes

After the long wait for the first fight, and now another (less) long wait after Saul Alvarez failed a PED test on the way to the rematch, is this the end? Have we reached the final page in the Alvarez-Gennady Golovkin rivalry? Much could depend on what happens in the ring on Saturday night (HBO PPV, 9 PM EST). A Golovkin win in a close fight, after the debated draw in the first, wouldn't change the pecking order of stars. Alvarez remains the biggest draw in North America. A close loss could eventually yield a third fight.

I had it 7-5 Alvarez the first fight. Just looked at it again without sound and GGG is clearly the aggressor but mostly ineffective compared to his normal self and that was because Canelo is slippery. If Canelo comes in less bulky meaning more slippery and faster hands then he can light up Golovkin more.
Golovkin, contrary to popular opinion has a great, although somewhat ponderous defence. He sees the punches real well but he over-reacts to many meaning he jumps back and has to reset. This is tiring and lets Canelo off the hook too often.
Canelo threw many hay-makers too and missed. I'm wondering if he can throw faster and straighter he can land heavy with something GGG doesn't see or anticipate.
That's why I'm Canelo by KO with a second bet Canelo to win.

I'm genuinely wondering how you pick Canelo by ko? Not dissing you at all but have you seen golovkins chin? It seems rock solid. Alvarez too, I can't see either man being knocked out.

I hope I'm wrong though and Canelo gets sparked.

Edit> I started writing this before you posted again and basically said how Canelo will get the ko lol.

Roldie will go 0-2 on his picks for this match-up

dunno how you can say that Golovkin is a better fighter

if Golovkin really was a better fighter..... as well as being bigger/stronger, with heavier hands..... then the first fight would not have been close, like Cliff admitted

the more-skilled more well-rounded fighter is definitely Canelo
