Comments Thread For: Hearn: Povetkin Fight Toughest For Joshua Other Than Klitschko

Anthony Joshua is listed by numerous sports books as a 10-1 favorite over Alexander Povetkin. Joshua's promoter still thinks this will be Joshua's most difficult professional fight other than the British superstar's slugfest with Wladimir Klitschko. Eddie Hearn, managing director for Matchroom Boxing, assured reporters on a conference call Monday that Joshua is taking this mandatory defense of his WBA heavyweight title "extremely seriously."

With AJ rated @ #1 & AP #3 could the ring magazine belt be at stake?

No dumbass. Alexander povetkin who's failed multiple steroid test for 2 different steroids isn't ring magazine worthy.

Wilder is Fury may involve the ring magazine belt because we're talking wbc champion and lineal heavyweight champion. Povetkin is the russia steroid champion

Hearn is right. Povetkin is a serious highest level contender.

Povetkin is way past his best, got dropped 3 times by wlad in his prime and almost lost a razor thin contest to a cruiserweight marco huck and has fail so many drugs tests its now boring and yet he is the best opponent other than wlad according to eddie doesnt seem right.

Well he has the best record. If your only defeat is losing to the longest reigning heavyweight of all time irrespective of what fans think of you you have done ok. I understand if it was a voluntary defence but it’s a mandatory and he won’t lay down and he ranked higher than any opponent Wilder has faced so it’s a good name on his resume.

Having said that AJ should knock him out easily. A routine knockout and anything less will not cut it. Neither do I want to see AJ wobbled. Let’s make an example out of the Russian and show Wilder fans why you deserve 70% at the negotiation table

You call him a dumbass but don't actually know anything the belt and obviously haven't read the rules..

I won't troll you , I'll stick to actual facts.

Fury with all the ratings rigs (I like him but how did he go up 3 places after Paineta ??) is still ranked 7th and Wilder 3 they CAN'T compete for the Ring belt because they aren't rated high enough read the RULES. The RULES say the fight is NOT worthy, you're just wrong.

AJ and Povetkin COULD compete for it AJ is number 1 and as Povetkin is #3 the fight is WORTHY in the rules. However my understanding they won't as Wilder is #2 has been ruled to be ducking YET to be honest looking at the wording as Wilder was offered a contract and declined to sign it should.

                  The rules ..

Championship vacancies can be filled in the following two ways:

THE RING’s Nos. 1 and 2 contenders fight one another.
If the Nos. 1 and 2 contenders chose not to fight one another and either of them fights No. 3, No. 4 or No. 5, the winner may be awarded THE RING belt if the Editorial Board deems the contenders worthy. Here are the seven situations in which a champion can lose his belt:
The Champion loses a fight in the weight class in which he is champion.
The Champion moves to another weight class (for more than one fight).
The Champion does not schedule a fight in any weight class for 18 months.
The Champion does not schedule a fight at his championship weight for 18 months (even if he fights at another weight).
The Champion does not schedule a fight with a Top-5 contender from any weight class for two years.
                  The Champion retires.
The Champion tests positive for a performance-enhancing substance.
