Comments Thread For: Ryan Garcia To Meet With Golden Boy, Discuss Future

While lightweight hopeful Ryan Garcia improved to 16-0 (13 KO's) by out-pointing Carlos Morales over ten rounds last weekend at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California, he didn't exactly play to rave reviews. "It's a delicate thing, he's a young kid but he still needs a lot of work, a lot to learn," said the president of Golden Boy Promotions, Eric Gomez, to BoxingScene.com.

As for perhaps pulling back on the pace of his career and being a bit less ambitious with the matchmaking, Gomez stated - "I think we're getting him the right fights. These are guys that are not easy. Carlos Morales is a tough guy, he almost beat Albert Machado, the champion, in Puerto Rico. Dropped him twice, I believe, and that's probably Machado's toughest fight. Machado became a lot better from that fight. We're hoping the same thing going to happen with Ryan."
Lol, what a joke. How can you pretend like you forget the result of one of YOUR upcoming fighters? Machado is a Golden Boy fighter.

Machado won an easy Unanimous decision and was the one who dropped Morales. Sure, he looked tired by the final round and held, but he completely won that fight and there was no close decision about it.

Trying to start damage control. Just face it, Garcia is not the future elite talent they were hoping. He might be the pretty boy face, but that's about all he has. He won't be able to compete with guys like Lomachenko, Davis, Mikey, etc.

They just need to slow it down a bit. They seem like they're in such a rush to get him a world title rather than building his foundation for the future. He fought a good, albeit it very measured fight against Velez in his last fight. This last one against Morales was a good tough learning experience. Maybe scale it back a bit for two fights or so and let him get in there against Morales again for a rematch.

You don't need to become a champion at 20 years old. The kid has special natural talent, but that isn't everything. We need to see how much he can learn and improve each fight.

He's still young man. Give him time to see if he developes and improves.
Maybe he will, maybe he won't.

Slow ya roll (Your just 19) & add an established trainer to your camp to help out that can teach you some head movement & add some different offensive moves.
