Arum is dumb if he thinks Hearn doesn't appreciate there is a time zone difference between the US and UK. DAZN (a British company) chose Hearn because (a) he is a good promoter but also (b) his UK Sky fight portfolio provides filler content (high quality boxing albiet not necessarily with fighters of most interest to the US) whilst Matchroom USA develops as a force. This with Bellator means DAZN have US fight content from the get go. Also, as Joshua is not a US PPV star, DAZN can afford him. Even with their big pockets, they are not going to be able to compete with a US PPV for AJ v DW (especially if it takes place in the US).
Arum: Hearn doesn't understand the American market at all

Hearn is just too arrogant to understand this little concept. There is a reason his Father and other UK based promoter didn't venture out to america. I give him his dues for trying doe. Can't sit here and knock on anyone that wants to work hard and achieve bigger and better things, but to think he would master it within a few years makes me think he isn't only just arrogant but he doesnt understand the market.Comment

It's a completely different culture here, and TBH England has been ripe as hell for boxing promotion in the UK since the 2012 olympics.
America is a brutal landscape to promote in in 2018. It's not a part-time endeavor.Comment

Yeah, but i also understand why they went with Hearn. He's relatively young for a promoter (39), he utilises things like social media and YouTube interviews far better than other promoters and like him or not, people talk about him. He pretty much gets more threads on here dedicated to him than any boxer, apart from a handful.
At the end of the day, there's no certainty that the boxing part of DAZN will be a success with any promoter but if you want your product known about and talked about, then Eddie Hearn is a good choice...Comment

Yea definitely I can see why they picked him too. I was defending him being the guy from day 1 actually cuz I do think he's among the best promoters in the game if not the best, BUT getting a UK guy to promote fights in a new market thats more competitive & different then he's used to is a big ask & there is gonna be a solid learning curve for him.Yeah, but i also understand why they went with Hearn. It does seem he's got some US guys he'll be working with here (Salita being among them) that will likely allow for each guy learning some sh^t that should help with their specific future goals in promotion.Comment

But I mean it wasn't going to do good numbers regardless. DAZN opens up next week to subscribers and how many do you think they will get before the Joshua fight? Mind you, this is a complete start up streaming service in the states that hardly anyone is aware of. We are, but that's because we are hardcore boxing fans. They aren't reaching a 100k subscribers until next year at the earliest. Going to be a long process and a bumpy one at the start. The success or failure of DAZN will come down to the rights they are able to get or not get in other big sports league.Comment
