Once again, just like I’m going with Hall of Famer Joe Cortez when he spoke on the Canelo/GGG fight; I’m going with HALL OF FAME sportscaster Al Bernstein on the Wilder/Fury fight. I enjoy listening to him because he does “know” a lot of sh@t about boxing. More than everyone combined on this forum. And he is right on point with the (3) things he said. I completely agree with the HOF’er.

“Obviously it was a fight he had to win or he isn't going to get the Wilder fight. It was a workmanlike effort. He wasn't in against outrageously great competition but I think the way he fought was probably beneficial to him. He got rounds in and he looked like his skill set was up from the last fight," said Berstein.

"I think the issue would be for Fury is are these two fights enough for him to get back to the level where he was at? He is going to need to get to that level because he will need to be at that level “to be able to compete” with Wilder."

“I don't know about (it making him) bigger. They are both international names and Fury is certainly an international name and the three of them are certainly the biggest names in the heavyweight division," Bernstein told BoxingScene.com.”

two diferent eras. Diferent egos. Frazier was a pit bull who fought every second of every rd. Ali always wanted to do his best so he was the only hw talked about as 'the man'. Fury is fine with stinkong up the joint. Wilder has problems with movement and jabs from opponents. Itll be a very boring fight. Maybe wilder gets through furys defense with a looping big shot and ko him but its hard to say. If not then fury has a chance to get a very very boring decision. Im very very disapointed its on ppv. It will not do good. Which hurts a potential fight with AJ. Unless hopefully they really stack the undercard. But i dont think thats the plan. I woulda rather gotten brezeale fight with wilder in Alabama so atleast i coulda went and watched live hahaha.

Al Bernstein is an unpretentious Chicago guy, and I've always liked his style. I hope that he and his boxing career last decades longer.

Yea he doesn't break anything down here. That said, when Bernstein does talk about Fury he does so fairly and he thinks of him highly when honest. Both on broadcasts, and I've chatted with him on Twitter several times about fights including this one.

Makes perfect sense. Also Wilders brother is fighting on the card.

Same, he's one of the guys I have no complaints about

Also, an article on BScene that gives a better account of what really happened in the AJ-Wilder negotiations. (And yeah, I'm still pissed that fight isn't made).

"Talks for a fight between Wilder, who holds the WBC title and WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO champion Anthony Joshua recently fizzled out for a variety of reasons. Wilder begrudgingly agreed to a purse that he believed was well below market value to try to make the fight happen but it ultimately wasn't enough to make the fight come to fruition."

AJ and Hearn just didn't want it, even at a discount...

Yeah, Al has always been like that. Rarely commits to much of anything. Always talks in mild generalizations.
