Comments Thread For: Golovkin-Alvarez Bad Blood Reminiscent of De La Hoya-Vargas

By Michael Rosenthal - Oscar De La Hoya and Fernando Vargas couldn't stand each other at the time they fought in 2002. The animus supposedly stemmed from an incident at De La Hoya's Big Bear, California, camp in the early-1990s. As the story went, Vargas, among a group of amateurs staying at the mountain resort, fell during a training run and the Olympic gold medalist ran past and laughed at him rather than help him up...

It's worse than that. That was more imagined in Vargas' head.
This is is beyond that. Golovkin's camp is shook, Canelo is angry.

The irony being, De La Hoya said they thought Vargas looked "abnormal" at the weigh-in, and after Oscar's victory, Vargas tested positive for PED's in the immediate post fight testing and received a 9 month ban. Was that listed in the article here? I skimmed it.

"I imagine that in 20 or 30 years from now Golovkin and Alvarez will run into each other at a boxing function, smile broadly when they make eye contact, embrace warmly and reminisce for a while about the good ’ol days."

          God I hope not!

The perceived animosity is only on paper but the hype adds up to the pay-per-view revenue both ggg and canelo salivated for sure.

Vargas tested positive for a steroid after the fight... Has no relation to canelo testing positive for clen 7 months prior to his fight
