Freddie Roach and Steve Collins on a Jones Jr/Collins fight

    These are recent.

Nigel Benn's best shots were bouncing off Stevie, he stood with Benn for 30 minutes and was never hurt once. What could Roy of done to keep Stevie off him? No question in my mind that Stevie would of broken Roy's heart and eventually broken him down.

I came through. I was too physically strong for Roy Jones, I started a strength progamme after I beat Eubank at Millstreet and that just made me stronger, I was getting stronger and stronger with each fight. I was stronger than ever when I confronted Roy Jones after he fought that guy, Frazier or whatever his name was, the fireman I think it was. You think an ectomorph would of lasted 36 minutes with 13 stone coming at him non-stop? We all know he was running scared.

Do you think Roy Jones would of lasted the distance with a prime McCallum after just 16 fights, having taken the fight at only a few weeks notice? If you do, you need your head tested. I tried to box McCallum and came unstuck, I wouldn't box Roy Jones. I'm not saying I could of lived with Roy Jones in the talent department, but I would of won the fight on strength and workrate. Kalambay I lost a split decision, but in Italy you need to stop them to get a draw and I didn't have much punching strength back then.

    More stuff..

I travelled to Pensacola to see Roy Jones fight and I actually climbed into the ring after his fight. I accused him of avoiding me and I challenged him live on national TV. At the post-fight conference I spoke to Jones and the press, I called him a coward and a yellow dog and I offered to fight him, winners take all. I would have beaten Roy Jones and he knew it!

They had one common opponent. On paper it looked like Roy Jones Jnr would win. But Stevie had heart and determination. He definitely could have won that fight.

I also know Collins was winning Irish youth titles at heavyweight while Jones was fighting at flyweight! That's pretty interesting.

I personally think Jones Jr would of toyed with Collins and stopped him on cuts if anything. Remember after Collins beat Eubank the first time at Mill Street he said "I'm the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world! Roy Jones has to beat me to be considered the man!" Idiot, guy was delusional.

steve collins was so underrated, systematically took apart nigel benn twice when some people still considered benn to be the greatest middleweight. collins found a way of fighting between 95 and 97 that looked very difficult to beat, his awkward style and accurate output, his ability to take punches and fire back, he was very physical and his accumulation of punches looked like they could get to anybody in the end. he was looking indestructable at that time. if the calzaghe fight had gone ahead, i think collins would of rallied late to stop him, calzaghe was very wild back then and inexperienced-collins would of won.

The Collins that tried to box, from 87 to 94 would not of stood a chance against Roy Jones junior.

But when Collins fought Eubank(especially 2nd time) he totally switched from cagey, awkward counterpuncher to a tough as nails pressure fighter who relied on his durability to wear opponents down. THAT Collins was a world-beater,a marauding warrior. Finesse went out the window but he was still quite crafty and good tactician. He grinded away a couple British title holders, then made Benn quit twice, grinded away the European title holder, floored by that American but got back up and punched him into submission, there was no stopping him.

Benn had told everybody who would listen that he would eat Collins for breakfast, but he was a boy in Collins hands!

Rjj would of S-T-O-P-P-E-D H-I-M at 168, punch for punch Rjj was so powerful at 168, he'd of painted collins ! he lost his power abit at 175 though so the 175 Rjj would of probably just stayed away more & won a wide ud

i remember readin once yrs ago about collins wantin 2 make a comeback @ 190 becos he said he would have 12 pounds more muscle & that would make him faster than ever becos muscles contract or some **** he was sayin, i had 2 laugh lol, guy seems messed up, punch drunk i guess
