Comments Thread For: Canelo's Trainers: We Clearly Beat Golovkin in First Fight

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-0-1, 34 KOs) has no doubt that he did enough to win a twelve round decision over WBC, IBO, WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 KOs). The boxers collided in September 2017, with the contest ending in a controversial twelve round split decision. The judges saw it 118-110 Canelo, 115-113 Golovkin and 114-114 for the draw.

Any unbiased observer could tell you Gennady's offense looked horrible....because of Canelo's defense.

Canelo landed the better power punches (literally landed more while throwing 100 less) and had a better connect percent while making his opponent miss...sometimes in gross fashion.

Ggg outworked Canelo and had a great jab, but nothing else. You dont get points for having a beard lol. Having a chin just enables you to fight a certain way...only lasts so long tho XD

Canelo won on my card also. Wasn't even a debate tbh. Good movement, great defense, good counters, good adjustments.

Gennady was in great shape, threw tons of punches although didnt land more than a jab, and had a great chin.

May the best man win again (Canelo)

Doesnt make sense this thread. If Nelo clearly won, then Nelo doesnt need to throw more punches in next fight. Why would you need to throw more punches in next fight if you clearly won? Nelo was obviousy robbed is what his trainers are implying.

Then generel consensus was Nelo lost first fight. So why this trying to manufacture idea otherwise is pointless.

Canelo did neutralize GGG, but he did not deserve anything more than a draw! A draw was a fair decision! "Make 'em miss, make 'em pay!" Canelo only did half the job!

Yup. All he has to do is survive the fight, and convince one judge. He is already ahead 118-110, 114-114.... Sad to say really, but we all have seen the bogus scorecards in his close fights. The worst one ever imo was his 114-114 on one of the cards vs Floyd, where he didn't win a round.
