You can be a world class crude brawler and a domestic/journeyman level slick fighter. There's fighters in local gyms that you might say are technically and fundamentally "better" than a guy like Maidana, but he was a world level fighter at what he did.
same goes for elite fighters. You can still be elite without being slick.

Elite fighters are those at the top. Just because some fighters are elite in this generation, doesn't mean they would be elite in any other generation, but that's the way it works. That's why we can also classify fighters with other terms like hall of Famers, contemporary greats, all time greats, etc.
If you want to talk about special fighters, just say that, but we don't need to start coming up with our unique definitions of already existing terms. That's like me saying I only consider a fighter a champion if he unifies... who cares!? A fighter is a champion by holding a recognized championship belt and that's the end of that!Originally posted by dibzvincent143 View PostThey are two different words.
Special is higher than elite.
All special fighters are elite.
Not all elite fighters are special.
Elite fighters are top ranked guys that have proven a lot in a few years. But we’ve seen many of them thruout history.
guys like cotto, sergio come to mind in the recent era. Elite during their primes but not special.
Special fighters are only few of their breed.
elite
noun
”a select group that is superior in terms of ability or qualities to the rest of the group or society”
Fighters who have separated themselves from thousands – or tens of thousands – of other fighters in the world. Pound for pound is the elite of the elite.

yet you are a Wilder fan. Happy to watch mediocrity so long as you share a nationality. Larry is a patriot in a country where he is hated what a confused guy.

Remember when people thought Broner was elite because he was fighting tiny guys.
You really dont know if someone is elite until they step up the competition and win.
