16' ring????? dude - i wish you had one of those mayo/dlh arguments with me before the fight, i may have saved you money.

whowa, if it indeed was a 16 footer then i can admit that it wasn't a classy move .... but 16, if it were THAT small - there had to be cyber text on it documenting as much, 16' is steep though dude.

I was just judging by the height of the announcer, Im at 65% upload right now. Almost up!

Ok Ok, boxing match is a boxing match is your theory, but you fail to realize the ring was not the standard 24 foot standard, it looked to be much less than 16 footer.

How would you feel if they lets say fought in a 30 foot ring? It would be outrageous because Cotto would be unable to get close enough to Malignaggi to even tap him. Malignaggi would go in, hit him a couple times back up dodge Cotto and go back in for the kill. That wouldn't be a fair fight to Cotto because of the style disadvantage it has. So a smaller ring isn't all that fair in itself.

Also Cotto came into that fight weighing around 160 pounds, I dont know if you realize this but Cotto fought with 8oz gloves!!! The only reason was because he weighed in at 140 pounds. Well by boxing regulations fights at 147lbs are mandatory to put on 10oz gloves, not his fault not like he had anything to say with the early weighin.... Oh **** he did!!! Cotto weighed at least 12lbs more than Malignaggi at the time of the fight.

Actually, Pedro Fernandez was just speculating in that article. I seem to remember Cotto weighing about 150 for the fight, about the same he always comes in the ring at. As for Paulie, I also seem to remember him being about 148 pounds. I'd have to look at the tape again and see what they weighed on fight night but I'm pretty sure those numbers are correct.

BTW, saying that a previous-day weigh in is bad is actually misguided. They changed it for a reason: fighters used to drain themselves to make weight (just like they do now) and then step in the ring and get hurt because they were too weak. Allowing fighters time to rehydrate and recoup is actually better for them. Equality is an advantage to no man and as long as they both get to weigh in at the same time then no fighter has an advantage over the other one.

BTW, Hopkins had a habit of coming in 3-4 pounds under his limit (and under his opponent's weight) and he still kicked their asses. My point: a great fighter can take advantage of being the smaller, more manuverable guy. Paulie, being a boxer, should've had the advantage by being smaller and, thus, being able to move better.

Cotto won with his rules. You are a moron that has no buisness posing as a boxing fan if you think the small ring wasn't a factor in Malignaggis game plan. All I said was Malignaggi has a right to be pissed off about it. Your just closeminded if you dont even attempt to look at the obstacles Cotto put into play.

Dude, most champions get their way in the ring. They fight on their rules. Look at PBF's fights and check out how huge the ring is; look at Jose Luis Castillo's fights and see how small they are for him. Roy Jones Jr. always demanded huge rings, as did/does ODLH. Just as you say a small ring gave Cotto an advantage (and the ring was not abnormally small) a big ring would've given Paulie an advantage. In that situation, the champion should get the advantage, should he not?

Lets say he is taller than average at 6 feet tall
pause the video where he is announcing the PR musician and grab a peice of paper. Measure the announcers height and use it as a reference to the size of the ring, rope to rope. Its slightly less than 3 times the size of the announcer which is less than 18 feet if the announcer is taller than average at 6 feet tall.

My guess is the ring was 16 feet, the real average height of the announcer was probley around 5'9 - 5'11.
