Comments Thread For: Rosales vs. Barnes and The Ongoing Flyweight Reset

By Cliff Rold - It wasn't long ago that flyweight was the hardcore pick for best division in boxing. A cast of characters led by Roman Gonzalez and Juan Francisco Estrada made a series of memorable fights. What followed was the inevitable movement to higher weight divisions. Yesterday's flyweight wave is today's still hot Jr. bantamweight division and, with...

I'm baffled by Selbey's lack of activity. He been British champion for over 2 years now, But the BBBofC has never ordered him to defend. He's also had a chance at the EBU belt, but to no avail. "To rest is to rust"!

I appreciate the history involved in the article -- that reminds me of Donnie Nietes and Kazuto Ioka, we might see Nietes back at 112 if he fails to capture the WBO jr. bantamweight title against Aston Palicte coming up in a few weeks ; it feels like Donnie was never really ever at Flyweight given how soon he moved up to the Super-Fly division.

Kazuto Ioka's retirement hurt 112 in that he was the #1. flyweight in the world, just like Nietes if Kazuto Ioka takes a loss vs. Arroyo maybe theres a chance he comes back to 112 and we can see Ioka vs. Artem Dalakian ; its funny to think about that considering the WBA ordered Ioka to face Dalakian before Ioka retired. Now knowing that Artem Dalakian is a legit threat you have to wonder how that one would of played out ; maybe Artem Dalakian would of been #1. right now or maybe Dalakian would of never become WBA champ.

Still, there is some spark at flyweight provided by the young blood, Cristofer Rosales vs. Andrew Selby II. is very interesting if you seen the first one. Sho Kimura vs. Kosei Tanaka is going to be FIRE, they might fight twice! The kid Tanaka has got my attention, hes not even in his prime but going for it hard, so hard that you can actually ruin a young fighter the way he has his foot on the pedal. We know what Sho Kimura did to Zou Shiming -- that could also happen to Tanaka.
