That doesn't really make any sense. Of course Pac fans would remember the 2nd fight; Pac won and had the final statement.

People did not forget the 1st fight. But because Duran LOST the 2nd fight, where SRL got the FINAL say, the 1st fight is not spoken of as much.

    It's very simple.

But yes, Duran was a great fighter.

duran should be remembered for his fights with dejesus, leonard1, hagler, cuevas, buchanan, barkley, moore, etc
Everyone knows about Leonard 2. Leonard pushed for a quick rematch and with huge boxing savvy played psychological games with Duran. Duran just couldn't cope.
Hearns just outpowered him terribly but then Hearns was just so much bigger than him. Bearing in mind that he was outside his prime punching power weight, his photo-finish tight fight against Hagler before this was incredible. But Hearns was just built to demolish a smaller man. He was about straight punches from the outside and smaller Duran was just a target for him. That knockout was brutal too.
It's a mark of the greatness of Duran that he was still fighting years later and took a middleweight title from the far larger Iran Barkley.
It takes no credit from Duran that he lost those fights. They were against true greats and he just kept coming back to the ring for more.

You must not have understood why I made that point/drew the Morales&Pac comparison...or if you did you're just looking for a silly argument.

When discussing these guys...those fights are oft used by detractors to make them look like less stellar fighters than they really were. It's always, "Morales was knocked out by Pacquiao...therefore Pacquiao is better." "Duran quit against Leonard, therefore Leonard is 2x better than Duran." "Duran is a quitter, he's overrated." This happens quite often and the first fights are written off even by objective fans in some instances.

        It's very simple indeed.

I always remember Duran to be the first and only man to BEAT the PRIME sugar ray ...

as a pacfan I will always remember the first fight with Erik, but will always point out the second fight, outside of MAB Victory pac-em 2 is pac's biggest win ...

IMHO Duran's legacy is tainted ONLY by the "No Mas" fight it will always hunt him ... i dont take it against Duran, his KO Loss to Hearns ... Duran fought Tommy gamely, but Hearns used his height and reach advantage to the fullest ...

No one's looking for an argument. Just needed you to clarify, and that you did.

Agreed 100%. But Pac most certainly is better than Erik right NOW, and I'm sure you agree. You must be dis*****g whether Pac is the better fighter than Erik historically.

calling leonard green, takes calling a fighter green to another new level.
