  • Ray Robinson is the true GOAT.

He's the only boxer among the greats who become the 2x FIGHTER OF THE DECADE.

    BY THE RING

Best fighter pound-for-pound in each of the past 10 decades.

1910s: Sam Langford — Small man beat the best big men of his day. Runner up: Jimmy Wilde.

1920s: Benny Leonard — Some still say he’s the greatest lightweight ever. Runner up: Harry Greb.

1930s: Henry Armstrong — Held titles in three weight classes simultaneously. Runner up: Tony Canzoneri.

1940s: Ray Robinson – Untouchable as a welterweight. Runner up: Willie Pep

1950s: Ray Robinson – Also one of the greatest middleweights ever. Runner up: Archie Moore.

1960s: Muhammad Ali – The Greatest really was the greatest at this time. Runner up: Carlos Ortiz.

1970s: Roberto Duran – Virtually untouchable as a lightweight. Runner up: Carlos Monzon.

1980s: Ray Leonard: His victories over Duran, Hearns and Hagler were epic. Runner up: Julio Cesar Chavez
    .
1990s: Roy Jones Jr. – At his best, he inspired awe. Runner up: Pernell Whitaker.

2000s: Manny Pacquiao – Sorry Floyd but you need to fight the best to be the best. Runner up: Floyd Mayweather.

I seen some of his later fights cause the footage is too bad or hard to find on his prime fights but I would agree he had no excuses in him fought every month even as a champ and they went ROUNDS. Also moved up to lhw and fought in 100+ degree weather dominating but couldn’t come out for the 15th round cause he was gonna die from the heat.

He was great, possibly the GOAT, it's not a hard argument to make. I don't think his being fighter of the decade is the sole, or even most important, reason he should be considered among that GOATs. I think the only reason he doesn't get as much credit is that casuals and fans that don't know their history overlook him since his prime fights weren't filmed or the footage has been lost. He's the guy they invented the concept of p4p for, after all.

Why put Mayweather as a runner up if they think he never fought the best? Just dismiss him outright. Oh, but then you'd look biased if you didn't at least mention the fighter experts and critics consider the greatest pugilist of all time.

The GOAT is definitely named "Sugar Ray." I'm not sure which one.

If floyd didn't temporarily retire and fight the top ww that time the boxing organizations would probably had a hard time picking who's the fighter of the decade between them.

                  I never said "sugar shane."

Why not Leonard? Does Robinson have three wins as great as Benitez, Duran, Hearns and Hagler? Did he even fight anyone as good as those guys, really??

Leanord kept retiring to avoid hagler who whooped his ass and Hearn exposed him for all the goods.
