Middleweight is like a sanctuary for the lesser skilled guys to hide.
Ward would school Golovkin, and so would DeGale, Jack and the Dirrells, so Golovkin stayed safe down at middleweight where they couldn't drop down to fight him.
Canelo was Mayweather's easiest fight in many years and he also lost to both Lara and Trout. If he stayed below middleweight, he would soon be sacrificed to Hurd or Charlo, so he moved up to middleweight where he and Golovkin now can fight for the number 1 spot in what could very well be the worst middleweight division of many years.
