    CORRECTION:

"crowned champion in 4 major international organizations" is a stretch, ambiguous/misleading.

he was WBC, WBO and IBF world champion but never won the WBA. he got the interim belt and lost the fight for the world championship.

i sure hope he gets to compete in the olympics. what a way to go.

Nah, Takayama beat the true WBA mini-weight champion ,Yutaka Niida, the knockdown in the first round sealed it for a lot of people in this close contest that was ruled a split-decision for Niida.

On topic, the 'Lightning-Kid' is one of the greatest strawweight champions, Katsunari deserves to represent Japan ( if hes able ) after the sacrifice Katsunari Takayama made to bring the IBF back to Japan :

Takayama did what most Japanese fighters never dare to do, despite being repeatedly screwed in his professional career Takayama pressed on in pursuit of a world-title when most thought it was over for him as pro. Takayama even went to Africa to compete in a final eliminator vs. Tshepo Lefele to face the champion ( Nkosinathi Joyi ) won his opportunity but lost in his first attempt against Joyi. Still the loss did not deter Takayama from his goal , he then headed for the Philippines, got screwed in another IBF eliminator vs. Mateo Handig. When all hope appeared to been lost Takayama finally got a crack at the new IBF champion from Mexico Mario Rodriguez -- who upset the former IBF champion Nkosinathi Joyi. Finally in Mexico Kastunari Takayama became the second Japanese fighter to win the IBF for Japan.

Best of luck to Katsunari Takayama in his quest to participate in 2020 Olympics in Tokyo Japan.
