    Kovalev's kryptonite: Jab feint-Straight right

Happened twice in a row, happened once that got him in a world of trouble to a controversial stoppage and happened twice where he legit got KO'ed.

As a Kovalev fan it is sad to say that he won't recover from the loss. He's not the type to "fix" or "get around" his kryptonite. Even back then he got hit alot by Jean Pascal but since he was younger, he could take a hit, but now that his up there in age, the call for defense demands but he couldn't keep it up.

I think had Kovalev gone into survival/hold on for dear life mode after the first knockdown (which was not totally devastating) and survive that one minute until the bell, he could have regained himself during the break, and maybe continue the fight and have a completely different outcome. But he kept on fighting and trading, and that second knockdown is what really took him out of it and ended it. I think that was more his kryptonite today.

he should have grabbed alvarez with both hands behind the legs and tackled him. he should have learned this because a certain guy did the same thing to him

I admit I'm a Kov fan! He was winning the fight! Just got caught slipping with to much time on the clock left.

After a big 4th round Kovalev seemed a little winded. Kov landed several powerful combinations and hard jabs that rattled Alvarez and slowed him. Alvarez took the punches. Kovalev continued to press the action, and Alvarez emerged from the sixth round with a cut under his left eye that was apparently caused by an accidental head-butt.

Disappointing to say the least. Main Events CEO Kathy Duva, Kovalev's promoter, said he has the right to a rematch per his contract, but she was unsure if he would seek it right away. Although Kovalev was in control through the sixth round, Duva said she was still concerned.

The real trouble he ran into started early because his jab was not crisp and strong like it was in the past, so he was getting countered by the straight right. Once that happened a few times, his output and confidence both dropped and Alvarez was able to make openings. You can see it all unfold if you look for it. Kovalev needs to control a fight to be at his best and Alvarez took that away from him by taking away his jab.

                Body shots!

Ward laid out the blueprint for everyone to see. Now they all go for the body, that is the real kryptonite.

Anything, just hit that body over and over.
