In his fight vs Golovkin he wasn't bouncing on his feet and looking slick(I knew he wouldnt do that, that's not who he is) He was literally just backing p rope to rope, GGG helped with his jab to draw him back but people that utilize great footwork can hardly be trapped on the ropes. Lomachenko,Rigondeaux,Ward,Crawford, etc
Why are people talking about Canelo like he has master footwork?

I never heard anyone say that, He has great hip movement, his defense is in his hips..He learned from the Mayweather fight as that is when his defense improved.. I don't get why GGG fans try to slam Canelo..It just makes GGG look bad as he looked horrible in that fightComment

Well, Canelo was already moving like that versus Trout. We all used to talk all that s hit about him being easy to hit and boom. He took it to heart and showed us lmao.I never heard anyone say that, He has great hip movement, his defense is in his hips..He learned from the Mayweather fight as that is when his defense improved.. Agreed with the rest though. Good hip/uppper body movement. More like Toney than Floyd in his approach. Floyd is good in the pocket but also has good feet and can disengaged whenever and reset guys easily.
I think what he learned from the Floyd fight is being a lot more agressive with his countering ability. He doesn’t just try to go one for one with boxers anymore and actively pushes harder on the counter.
And he DOES have good feet. People misuse the term though. Good feet doesnt have to equal Macho Time. He has educated feet, but he’s not fleet footed. His sense of spacing and small movement is great. His feet are very rarely out of place. He’s no Floyd or Rigo or Loma or anything like that, but he doesnt try to be. GGG has good feet too. Doesnt mean he’s loma. Likewise for Mikey Garcia. Just different versions of footwork.
At no point was Canelo ever trapped vs GGG and if we’re being honest, Canelo likes to fight off the ropes. All hating aside, he’s probably the best fighter off the ropes in boxing. It’s not a common skill anymoreLast edited by NearHypnos; 08-03-2018, 12:40 PM.Comment

True his defense did look good against TroutComment

Canelo has great upper body movement and elite counter punching ability. That's why Golovkin was so hesitant to go all out when he had Canelo on the ropes.Comment

Great footwork doesn't only mean how mobile one is, he knows how to position himself properly, which allows him to be the combination puncher that he is. Same applies with Marquez in the later stages of his career.Comment
