Comments Thread For: Showtime's Espinoza Hopes Network Can Air Future Joshua Fights

Stephen Espinoza expects Showtime to have an opportunity to bid for the broadcast rights to future Anthony Joshua fights. Espinoza, Showtime Sports' president, expressed optimism regarding working with the British superstar again during an interview with BoxingScene.com before a press conference for the Danny Garcia-Shawn Porter fight Monday in New York.

Say what you want about Espinosa, but he's a true professional. He's built up Showtime in impressive fashion so far.

The Garcia, Spence, and Wilder brands will determine if he goes down in boxing history as a great executive or not.

He could have two PPV properties out of that bunch. The next year is critical for the network. Hearing rumblings that Al is feeling the heat. Lots of pressure to deliver a PPV fighter from that camp. Should benefit us fans.

This was just the excuse for Wilder fight not to happen Joshua before april will only be allowed to fight on DAZN and Wilder will sign agreement to fight only Showtime.

I would agree that Espinoza has done OK with the hand he was dealt & with HBO not diving head first into the fight game helped create the illusion that Showtime is killing the competition which is farthest from the truth! With the huge stable Haymon has, its down right disappointing that he hasn't been able to create 2 or 3 ppv fighters! They do a terrible job at promoting their fighters! I don't see Joshua signing back with Showtime & the remaining of his fights will be shown on DAZN and I get the feeling HBO is about to be involved with Joshua!

Wilder doesn't currently have a contract with Showtime so you'd presume he'd leave that clear for an AJ fight. Wilder AJ may not be a best fit for DAZN anyway.

DAZN & Hearn have said that fights/fighters will be onboard on a fight-by-fight basis. They can be put on one of the cards then bounce if they don't like it. The idea is this platform won't tie fighters down and they are willing to work with all networks & promoters, it's a good business model because if it works how it should then most people will subscribe to it (like netflix/amazon) and ultimately the fans will win.

There is no excuse for a fight not to be made due to networks these days, if May/Pac can get done then any fight can get done!

Fans in the USA won't care if it is Showtime or HBO since PPV doesn't require one to be a subscriber to either. The problem of course is would Wilder who is loyal to Showtime would fight on HBO. If it is Joshua he would fight, I think so.

Sounds like Alphonso never plans to leave the UK in this lifetime. Tyson Fury, has more balls in his little finger than Al. Fury has been on the road, gained fame on the road, is hunting big game on the road. All the things that AK fears.
