Fighting This Year Makes Perfect Sense For Both Fury And Wilder

It's the best scenario for both the winner and the loser.

If Wilder loses, he is still one of the most dangerous punchers in the division and will still be a viable contender to regain a belt. Especially if it is a points loss, since no one has ever mistaken Deontay skillwise for Muhammed Ali. Losing to the lineal will not be a career ender.

For Fury, it's even better. Getting beaten only his 3rd fight back from a 2 year hiatus gives him all the excuse he needs to keep going and still be considered a top guy. He will recover easily from a first loss even if it is by KO.

But, if Fury wins, he is a beltholder AND the lineal. He will have at least equal footing in any negotiation with ANY other fighter.

The same goes for Deontay and perhaps even more so. If Fury looks like his old self this August, then gets beaten by Wilder, the argument will be almost undisputable as to him being the best in the division.

And the best part is it puts enormous pressure on Hearn to finally come to the table with a decent offer for the winner while also providing perhaps the best payday for both men not named Anthony Joshua.

It's a win-win that makes far too much sense to only be a ploy or media posturing.

It makes sense except Fury is a cherry picker now who only wants to cherry pick his way to a big money fight with cash cow AJ. He doesn't want to get KOed by Wilder for a hell of a lot less money than he would get for being KOed by AJ. Fury is only the lineal champ because he beat a horrible version of Wlad in a boring, light punching fight. He is not the best heavyweight in the world and I doubt he will ever win even a piece of the world heavyweight title again.

This is not serious. The fight won't happen and both Wilder and Fury will accuse each other of lying and ducking.

In my opinion it is absolutely not the best time. Many people won’t buy this in uk so it will be down to ppv buys in America.

For wilder if he wins he will get no credit at all - for he beat someone clearly not ready.

For fury if he wins - awesome - but giving himself such little preparation is silly and he is a clever man so knows hat. If he takes it on I think he knows he will never return and is back only for a quick payday. Although more oddly why not take the payday for more against Joshua?

He will have 3, almost 4 months.

If he looks decent vs Pianetta I see no reason not to, especially as I laid out in the OP.

If, however, he has made no significant progress from his first fight back, I agree that the Wilder fight will not make as much sense as it should- though it will be lucrative from hype alone.

The way these two talk, the fight is very saleable.

            Especially in December.

              No.

If Fury looks good vs Pianetta, this is going to happen.

They'll have 3 months to hype it.

3 months of antics in pressers and social media.

              It'll be huge.

So Wilder fans happy with his guy fighting a boxer who is no where near his best.

I think that is kind of the idea to be honest.

It's a potentially lucrative fight that presents great risk/reward ratios for both men.

Wilder loses, he still is a KO artist and still very marketable.
Fury loses, he came back too soon.

Meanwhile, two of the best shyt-talkers in the business get to hype things way out of proportion.

It's a no-brainer if you think about it, and gives the winner, however that may be, more leverage negotiating with Joshua.

Some folks will call the winner "the real" champ
