Im man enough to admit when Im wrong. I recently went back and watched some of his recent fights and now I do think he is foreal.
I always remember the 6 Heads fight when I wasnt impressed with him and thought he was highly overrated and in a couple of fights after that but he's gotten better all the time and I think he is the "2nd" best Welterweight in the divison. The 6 Head fight was a while ago and he would only come in at 150 back then. Now he is a full blown Welterweight and he's much faster now then he was then.
He has some very impressive power as he is very heavy handed. He doesnt have great speed but it wont matter against 95% of the guys he fights because he throws alot of punches but most of all he is heavy handed. There's a differnce between heavy handed guys and guys with pop. Zab has pop. Pop hurts you for that second. Everytime Zab hits you it will hurt but then you can move. Heavy handed guys punches last longer. You can still feel it after the punch is gone. Pop guys snap your head back. Heavy Handed guys move your whole body.
Margarito's speed doesnt matter because all he has to do is hit you once and that punch will hold your body there for a extra second so that even if the 2nd one takes awhile to get there it will still make it because you cant move. I always bring up the Santos fight when I say that he's overrated but the truth is I always thought he won that fight and watching it back, he was even more impressive then I remember.
It was crazy watching that fight then watching the Zab-Floyd fight because they seemed so much smaller. The Santos fight was at 154 but Margarito still came in at about the same thing he comes in at 147. Santos was huge at a 170 pounds and his Southpaw style gave Margarito trouble.
I know believe that Margarito will KO Hatton & Cotto. Gatti may would last but he would punish Gatti in the process. Quintana is good but I think he's a little too small and Margarito would cut off the ring way better then Julio. Williams could catch him with a big punch with his style but I think Margarito would Knock him out. Castillo is good but I think would be too short and he wouldnt have the power to hurt Margarito at 147. I think he gets KO. Chico may can do it because I think he could still carry his power that far and be nasty but you would have to favor Margarito for now.
Zab & Callazo could give him problems because they are slick leftys and I think Zab could catch him with a big punch but I dont think you can ever trust Zab so he would probally find a way to lose no matter what. Callazo is big but I think Margarito ends up walking him down and stopping him.
I actually think that Margarito could possibly do well at 154 but its a half and half thing. One second I think Vargas/Shane would beat him and the next I think he would. One second I think he would give Winky problems with his style and punch output but then the next I think Winky makes him look like a fool. The bottom line is that him & Floyd would be a great fight and the fight I want to see more then anything but theres only one problem and that is that Margarito has no big wins on his resume. I think this would be a big win for Floyd and he would get credit for it but no way near the credit he deserves. I wish that he couldve fought Hatton, Cotto, Castillo, Callazo, or whoever 1st so that this fight could be so much bigger.
Style wise, Floyd vs Margarito is easily to me the best fight in boxing. Its the perfect matchup. The big hard punching giant who throws a million punches and bombs, vs the master boxing fast, great defense speedster
