  • Comments Thread For: Research Suggests Non-Contact Boxing Can Combat Parkinson's

Muhammad Ali's post-boxing battle with Parkinson's was attributed in part to the blows he took in the ring, especially in the second phase of his career, yet some experts at the time claimed that the physical fitness he built up during his time in the sport may have helped his body fight certain symptoms.

Hopefully the sport takes a look at this and changes some things .

1 . 2 Minute rounds so fighters dont over do it .

2 . 3 minute breaks every other round to adequately hydrate ,maybe give the fighters a little quiz to see if their coherent .

3 . All fighters must wear 16 oz gloves to insure less accidents happen .

4 . No full contact to the face area , points will be judged if a punch is a inch from the target , and body shots are only allowed to hit directly .

5 . Championship fights require caged head gear so full contact is allowed . Theres no need to knock someone out everyone should just get along in the sport , no need to hit anyone directly anymore thats not nice !

      6. All registered boxers will be required to do a boxercise class no shorter then 1 hour twice a month following a crossword puzzle that has to be completed in 15 minutes or their boxing licence revoked for a year .

I assume that just means boxing training without sparring or otherwise getting hit in the head.

Isn’t it the gloves that cause the problems? Go bare knuckle and all will be fixed

I think it's a boxing workout minus any sparring. "Non-contact boxing" is kind of a silly term for it.

Some weird responses to the topic lol.

It's just the boxing workouts without sparring or competitive fighting.

Boxing requires a lot of coordination and fitness, which should slow down the process of Parkinson.

Freddie roach said that working as a boxing trainer helped him and improved his Parkinson to a certain extent.

Otherwise sitting around doing nothing gives no positive feedback to the body and mind.
